Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney Gaelic Athletic Club was founded in 1999. Two local clubs joined forces to ensure survival in the face of rapidly diminishing numbers. In 2003 a concerted effort was launched to give a new impetus to the Juvenile section of the club. It was apparent that there was a significant shortage of players coming through to senior level and the club was again experiencing difficulty in maintaining numbers.
This renewed emphasis was aimed at providing all the children of the area with an opportunity to play Gaelic Games in a well structured and fun environment.

In order to gauge the interest in Gaelic games among the youth in the area, fun sessions for all children under 10 on Sunday mornings. Leaflets were circulated in the local primary schools.
The attendance at the initial session was 26 children growing rapidly to over 70 children. This was quickly followed by the organisation of a ten week programme for all children involved in the club between the ages of six and fourteen. Around this time also a girls and ladies section of the club was also formed with numbers growing rapidly. There has
been a significant a mount of success in
each of these groups and this has led to further increases in membership.
It has now been recognised that through the endeavours of many ‘lay’ coaches that the club has reached a certain level. It is felt that to further the skills within the club, both coaching and playing, it is now necessary to engage the services of a properly qualified coach. |
