The Under 14 boys hosted Castletown these evenings in a challenge match at Pearses Park. On a perfect evening for football the boys ran out comprehensive winners after a very efficient display of football.
The boys have been training hard over the last few weeks, working on support play and passing at pace and they showed tonight that this work is paying off.
Arklow went in 0-8 to 0-1 at half time after a very controlled 30 mins of football. Neil O’Reilly accounted for 6 of those scores as he ran the show from midfield and Josh Moules and Daire McBride rowed in with a point each.
The coaches looked for more team involvement in the second half, with more running from the forwards and support going forward from the halfbacks. The team rose to the task and 16 mins into Arklow had added another 4 goals and 3 points to their tally. Paddy Sally showed some great fielding skills and positioning for two of the goals with Ciaran O’Reilly slotting home the other two goals.
True to form Arklow played at a high tempo until the final whistle with all the subs getting a run and to Castletown’s credit they kept fighting until the end and searching for scores.
It was an excellent team performance with each player receiving some well deserved praise from the coaches after the game.
A big thank you to Castletown for travelling and giving us a match and apologies for the delayed throw in. Also thank to all our supporters who cheered on the lads.
Next match in a league game away to Blessington leaving Pearses Park on Wednesday at 5:45 pm.
