AGB Juvenile Club Coach Brian Doyle is one of a group of cyclists taking part in a charity cycle in Kerry on the 20th and 21st of August. This cycle is a memorial cycle for Joe Timmons who passed away last year. Joe won an All Ireland medal in 1958 with Dublin, after playing minor and senior football with Wicklow and was featured in the recent top125 Wicklow players poll.
The cycle is being organised by Joe’s son Joe who was himself an Inter County player with Wicklow in 1995, and in total 14 cyclists hope to complete the 160km course on the Ring of Kerry and raise some much needed funds for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) UNIT in Tallaght Hospital.
The aims of this charity are to provide counselling services to bereaved families, to increase awareness of sudden cardiac death and the conditions and symptoms associated with it among the public and the medical profession, and to raise funds to support a National Centre to evaluate and treat people who may be at risk.
The charity is completely self -funded through charitable donations and fundraising events.
Brian is hoping the club can support him and the group in this endeavour and he’ll be visiting all club groups over the coming weeks looking for sponsorship.
You can also contact Brian at 086 1993948 or Joe Timmons at 087 2719501.
Donations can also be made through the CRY website at the link below, and please mention the Ring of Kerry cycle in connection with any donations made online.
