AGB Girls U12s Update
AGB 12s opened their league campaign with a very tough away game against An Tochar on April 15th. An Tochar won 8-2 to 0-6. A great deal of work remains to be done to tackle a team of this ability in the future but the girls battled as a unit and succeeded in breaching a very strong defense to chalk up 6 hard won points. Plenty to work on here!
The girls travelled to Bray on April 22nd and were convincing winners over Bray Emmets 5-8 to 1-1. Seven girls scored for AGB in this excellent team effort. The girls clearly learned a lot from their previous defeat.
AGB v St. Pat’s “A” took place on May 25th in Ballymoney. Again a great team effort yielded 5-9 to St. Pat’s 3-3.
On June 10th AGB took on St. Pat’s “B”, also in Ballymoney. This was a convincing win again for the Arklow girls 4-15 to 0-1.
The last league game will be on Thursday 15th July in Ballymoney at 7.30pm against newcomers Cumann na Mara.
The girls are busy training and preparing for the Championship and recently travelled to Ballygarret to play, not one, but two challenge games, such is the extent of the squad this season. Thanks to Martin, John, Brian and Dawn for providing the extra personnel to manage the teams.
Meanwhile 6 of the team represented their County in Carlow recently and were terrific ambassadors for our club! Well done to Ciara Forde, Doirrean O’Reilly, Annie Conroy, Ciara Lawler, Kiera Rochford and Lisa Keegan. Unlucky not to get a place was Emer Curran who unfortunately was recovering from a tummy bug and was not up to full fitness at the trials! We’re glad we have Emer in our backline!
James Furlong and James Kavanagh, ably assisted by Mary Forde, continue to work with the squad on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The girls’ attendance levels are terrific and we have great support from our parents. A big thank you and well done to all!
