AGB ladies held their first Summer BBQ this year on Sunday last the 28th June in glorious sunshine at their Ballymoney Club Grounds. Everyone played their part in the great success it was with every girl being assigned a job whether to bring salads, make desserts, bring sodas etc. It was partly organised as a way to mark the end of the exams for many of the players as well as a team bonding session and a “get to know” the juvenile coaches in the club, first of many!!!

The success of the BBQ was a reflection on what’s going on within the club, all working together for each other. The Senior lads were out Saturday bring bulky items to the field and they were back out again early Sunday putting up the marquet. All the Dads/Spouses volunteered to give a hand with the cooking Maurice Eddie Michael and paul along with Shaun and Gillian also helping on the day. Alex provided the music, John organised the meat, Garry the sumo- wrestling. A Big thank you to Will Tyrrell who co-ordinated the fun games and showed no favouritism!!!

The girls started the afternoon off with a game of rounders…the under 21’s v’s the more experienced girls. And experience does pay off with the older girls showing the younger ones a thing or two! Margot Hughes displayed some fine skills with the hurl and got a number of home runs making it look easy! Not to forget about Eileen and Mandy who played their part and have now signed up for the team , (though Mandy may have to take time to edge back to fitness after sustaining an hamstring injury, wishing her a speedy recovery). The games continued on til after nine and then it was all hands on deck to clean up and again it was a case of many hands make light work. Ballymoney was back to it usual perfection before we left the field!!

Hopefully this is a tradition just started and we can build on it year on year. So well done to all involved- in particular Mairead Hurley who organised everyone to play their part in a very successful evening. Now its back to the real business where the girls hope to continue their success with first round of championship scheduled for the 11th of July! Come on the Gers!!!

Pictures to follow!!
