Eire Og 0-13 AGB 0-11
Arklow senior men had a disappointed loss in Division 1 against Eire Og away on Saturday evening. In the first half AGB had the aid of a strong breeze, but they failed to create many clear cut scoring chances. Niall Mullet slotted some hard worked scores but AGB failed to hold any advantage over their opponents and were down 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.
After the break, Eire Og initially extended their lead, although the overall match was scrappy. Halfway through Arklow stormed back into the match with some fine scores from Steven Hurley and sub Andy Brennan via well worked ball against the wind. Three points up with their defence showing well AGB seemed to take their foot off the gas and gave the ball away too easily going forward. Their eleventh point proved to be there last as a more hungry home side used the breeze at their back to slot over five unanswered points in the closing 10 minutes, winning out by 2.
A frustrating loss for Arklow Gers/Ballymoney who played below part for long periods however at times showed great potential.
They play An Tochar in the 2nd Round of the Championship in Aughrim on Saturday evening, throw in at 5:30pm. This is a must win, last chance
saloon for AGB in the championship. Supporters are much appreciated!!!!!
